Jim Thome - now 9th all time in HR
« on: July 03, 2010, 09:11:25 PM »
Hard to believe just 9 men have hit more homers then Thome.  It's too bad steroids has made this not as big of a deal as it would be otherwise.

I've always been a fan of Thome back to his Indians days. Good for him. Hopefully this new clean era will wipe away some of the tainted players from near the top of the records book.

Me too, hard to believe it was almost 20 years ago he was playing 3rd base.

Love this old Thome quote : "The strongest thing I put into my body is steak and eggs. I just eat. I'm not a supplement guy. Steroids are not even a thought."

With a couple of homers today Thome has passed Mark McGuire for 9th all time on the home run list.

Only Ted Williams and Barry Bonds had higher OPS' in their age 40 seasons.

Atta boy, Thome!!

He's this generation's Harmon Killebrew.

Speaking of which....I always heard stories about Harmon Killebrew being a pure slugger...and I had it in my head that he was a big hulking man...but he was only 6'0" 195.  Not the 6'3" 250 that Thome is.  Similar type hitter though.

Word. He really is this generation's Harmon Killebrew, very few people ever mention Killebrew or ever remember his career, but he was a pure power hitter and racked up some nice stats. Just like Thome, who I doubt many will remember as well as even Griffey, but Thome has earned what he has done, puts him over Bonds and A-Roid.
