Everyone and their mother figured he'd need it sooner than later with the pure velocity that he throws with (mainly cause we're just cynics)...but even I didn't think it would happen this fast.

Better to happen earlier than later?  The Nationals aren't ready to compete and maybe this solves the problem on his arm...what a blow to a terrible franchise however.  I wonder if Harper would have signed with the Nationals had he known about this.

he signed with the nats because of the money, not because he thinks they're gonna be a winner.

And because he's not a free agent.

And because he's not a free agent.

He kind of was...he could've just gone to JuCo and done it all again next year.

Where he probably would have been drafted by the Nats again...

Speaking of his free agency, I remember reading an article a few months back before he was drafted when he said something like "I can't wait to be a big-leaguer and wear the pinstripes" I wonder where he's gonna go the first chance he gets...
I'd rather have a sister in a whorehouse than a brother who's a Yankees fan.

Lesson number 5,000 about how pitching prospects don't usually pan out. Not only can they suffer the usual failings of hitting the bigs, but history is littered with people who came up, pitched amazingly for half or one season then tore up their arm and never recovered right again (Mark Fidrych, Kerry Wood and so on). I hope Strasburg recovers, but looks like he is down 18 months, so we will see him in 2012 again, maybe.

When I watched him pitch his first game (they put it on ESPN), Kerry Wood just sprung to mind instantly, I kept thinking about Wood's 20K performance and hearing Nolan Ryan comparisons, and then his arm went out and I was thinking that same thing might happen to Strasburg considering his huge hype and 14 strikeout game. On top of that, people were selling first born children to get his baseball cards and I was thinking "better sell those now before he gets injured and they become worthless." I'm sad it came true, but I kept thinking about an injury from his first start.

I can't say I feel bad for the Nats because they don't deserve to have him in the first place (nor should any pro sports team have their futility rewarded with generational talents)

Doesn't he have to given permission to allow the Nats to draft him again?  I know that the Jays weren't able to draft Paxton again unless he gave permission.

Besides, there's a good chance Baltimore or Pittsburgh pick him 1st again next year...although Anthony Rendon would make it inteesting.
