Halladay really battled today.  Sometimes it's as interesting to watch him pitch without his best stuff as it is to see him dominate.  7 innings 117 pitches 9ks and 3 walks (he had 4 all year before today).  He got squeezed pretty bad and the phillies also played poor defense but still ended up with a great start.

With the bases loaded in the 5th and he struck out Holliday to end the inning, it made me pump my fist a little and them cheers from the Phillies fans where LOUD, Doc must be loving the atmosphere.

They were equally loud when he didn't get the call against Puljos. How can you not love that atmosphere.  Even with a few select nuts the phillies fans are very passionate.

I would be more intense too if I went from a constant out of the playoffs team to a world series contender.

Halladay versus the Pirates today, that could and should get ugly for them...

I just wish Canadians cared about baseball as much as most Americans do. I live in Red Soxville, when the Red Sox won in the first round of the playoffs in 2004, the kids at my college lit the quad on fire, flipped over cars and threw bricks at things from excitement! Then they had to call in mounted police before the next game to keep the peace lol. Now that reaction was dangerous and ridiculous, but still, a lot of fans in a lot of cities here have that kind of passion. I haven't been to a Jays game since 1998, but I always tell people that between the action, the crowd is so quiet that you can hear the ventilation system whirring along loudly quite a contrast to games I've been to in New York and Boston where there is noise constantly, even during/after every single pitch sometimes.

Anyway, I'm sure Halladay likes that change, some motivation from the crowd for once.

complete game, over 130 pitches...wonder if that was needed when they look back on it.

the amount of pitches thrown in a game is over rated.  those are just tracked pitches. also not taken into consideration, how many pitches to hold runners or pickoffs, warm up pitches before the game as well as in between innings.

way too much emphasis now adays.

Fair enough in the case for a Horse like Doc, but i bet ya Jiminez will get long injury at some point this season.

I think that's debateable.  Anyway, if you're the Phillies and you want Halladay strong for the playoffs, then what good does it serve him throwing 130+ pitches against the Pirates in May?  There's really no need for that.  This is about the third time already this they've done something like that.

How awful are the Phillies.

Roy Halladay: 2.42 ERA 1.11 WHIP   112 strikeouts (17 walks)  5 complete games, 3 shutouts, 1 perfect game

9 and 7 record??

He's on pace to throw 277 innings

The Phillies have scored three runs or fewer in all of his losses (and four of his wins).

Pretty good stats but he still seems to be giving up more HRs lately.   And, Jimenez (if not others ) are still ahead of him in the Cy Race :(

Doc's stats are still awesome.  Not getting much run support, as usual, but still it's a bit weird to see him blow a 3-0 lead yesterday, and he's on pace to throw a lot of innings.  Another 119 pitch outing yesterday.

With all the mileage on his arm, and his age, there's a chance that a couple years down the road we'll be glad we're not paying him 20-25 mill a year.  As much as you hate to trade your franchise player, I knew at the time there was a definite chance we'd look back and say it was actually better that they did.

They are killing Doc over there, what the hell is the coaching staff thinking? Just because he can throw CGs, doesn't mean you let him burn himself out by July in complete game/120+ pitch performances. Also, the Phillies are just tanking on offense, the talent is still there, but even Howard vanished this year, no idea what is going on?

Maybe nearly every single person was on the juice before (not Halladay of course) and felt a lot more spry, now they are feeling the pain? lol
