Carlos Perez, Catcher
« on: August 05, 2010, 12:23:41 PM »
Did a forum search on this prospect and not a single discussion came up. He doesn't turn 20 until October and so far this season at Class A SS he's posted a real tidy .299/.388/.444 batting line. In '08 with the DSL Jays (before turning 18) his BB:K was 52:28; he hit .306 with an on base of .459. Defensively he has thrown out baserunners at a clip that's well exceeded the league average (40% so far this year, 49%(!) last year in the GCL).

The signs are there. Hop on board.

Add to that he was voted Top player in the DSL for the Jays in 2008 too.  There have been a few threads discussing Perez, but not a lot of talk overall.  The Jays really might be in a position to have too many good catchers down the road with Arencibia, Jeroloman, Perez, D'Arnaud, etc.

Perez has the highest celing out of any of them.  The only question with Perez that remains is what his power potential is.

I'm sticking with AJ Jimenez as our best catching prospect until further notice, although why would I complain about Perez?

I definitely take Perez as my horse in that race, but we'll see what happens

Perez is our best catching prospect.  Brilliant defensively.

D'Arnaud and Jiminez are a notch behind.

Good (and I mean good not even great)catchers are not easy to come by, so having a surplus of good catching prospects is a good place to be. If we get a good pair on our team, we can trade others for, hopefully, some nice prospects/younger players in other areas. Nice stats on Perez there btw.

It's good that they're all doing well.  I just am glad we have potential prospect trade bait.  Maybe we can finally get a corner infielder.
