Free Brett Wallace!!
« on: May 11, 2010, 12:56:31 AM »
The guy just hit his 10th homer of the season, hes absolutely racking with a .980 OPS!

Can Overbay please get his crap together so we can trade him for a bag of balls, and call up this guy?

Even if they ship Overbay out tomorrow, Ruiz will take his place. We won't see Wallace for another few months.

No way, by all accounts Wallace is ready now. Maybe they want to delay his super 2 by waiting until the end of june, but after that nothing is gained.

and where are you going to bat Wallace?
I would bat him 6th, but our idiot manager will probably bat him 9th

Don't forget the environment he's playing in.    Jay Gibbons has a 1.131 OPS in the PCL.  They're paying Overbay a lot of money.  Might as well use him for now.  If he is ever released I'd agree Ruiz should at least get a shot for a little while.

Wallace will be here by the end of the year but I don't think the time is right right now.

You will inject a kid from AAA into the sixth spot? Sorry this kid is not ready for 6th and no way will he hit higher than Snider. Wallace will have to hit ninth.

Assuming Cito is still filling out the lineup card, I'll take that bet.

From A ball on they should be teaching kids it doesn't matter where you hit in the order.  It's not that Snider or Wallace or even Lind isn't capable of hitting 4th.  It's years of psychological damage done telling them they are a #whatever hitter or can't hit in whatever spot because of whatever reason.

Corpusse-you should check your stats before using a silly example like Jay Gibbons. His home OPS is 1.545 and his road OPS is .668 so you don't have much of an argument there. (Wallace 1.025 at home, .935 on the road)

Granted, the PCL is a hitters league overall, but Wallace is more than ready and Overbay is just sleepwalking his way through the end of the contract. I get the super 2 thing, but he better be up the day after that deadline. Release the 'O', we're already paying millions to have BJ Ryan not play, the bumpkin Lyle might as well join him.

If you look at the lineup I proposed at the beginning of the season, it would prove otherwise

the guy hitting 5th right now BTW is Overbay, the worst hitter on team

It's not 2 weeks ago.  It's today.  And today, Snider is one of the best hitters in the lineup and could very well be that for the remainder of his career here.  That's what kind of a bat he has.

Using that same logic one could say, Overbay could be hitting better for the rest of the season as well, Overbay a hitter with a good track record who has established himself as one of the best hitters if not the best on this team the last few seasons which Snider is yet to do.
So in summary you are basing this argument off Snider's projected future and 1 week hotstreak as I could base it off Overbays entire carrer with the Blue Jays.

which would you stake your life on?

I really don't see any harm in letting Wallace stay in Vegas until September.

So if you bring Wallace up today, who do you send back down?  Ruiz?

Well its a rebuilding year,  this year not about a impending free agent who won't be back next year. I can understand giving at bats to guys like Lewis, Ruiz and Bautista who are old, but might be around next year. But giving ABs to Overbay while he stinks it up, that makes no sense.

and what will you say, when Overbay starts hitting and Lewis, Ruiz "stinks" it up? This is a loooooooooooooooooooooong season and we are barely out of the first month of the season. Trust me when I say they will all stink it up at certain times.
