Sorry posting this so late, just noticed, I guess yesterday was a slow news day.  He's the last person I'd expect to see on the front page.  There is a pretty big article about him including that during the celebrations of his no hitter he ended up with a bloody nose from his teammates.

found it online

It is titles like this that get the hopes of casual fans up before they even understand how development works.  Drabek has all the talent in the world, but there's no guarantee he's going to be a future ace.  So if he isn't a future ace, he'll be hated.

Otherwise, great article.

BTW, who's Drabek's major league model/comparison?

(And it definitely can't be Halladay so the title of that article is asinine, though predictable.)

Good question, is it possibly even to early in his development for a comparison? I personally can't think of one, but I have never actually seen him pitch either.

I'm just saying - when you look at the top SP's in the majors right now most of them accomplished a lot more than Drabek has by the time they were his age. Most of them also have better pitcher frames than 6-1 & 190 (likely generous, btw). Yes there are late bloomers and some smaller starters do succeed, but with these being the minority we should be a bit skeptical about the Ace-level hype for Drabek.

Johan Santana's about that size. He's pretty good.

I didn't say smaller starters can't succeed but the odds are against them

Should be noted though that when Santana ('79) was Drabek's ('87) age in '02 he was in the Majors, struck out 137 over 108.1 ip and posted a 2.99 era
