The New Tim Collins

For all of you who were fretting over how we gave up collins, no worries, there is a new guy to fill the role of small stature strike out machine. his name is Alan Farina.

in 5.1IP, 1H, 2BB, 9K at the AA level.

While trying to construct the 2011 Jays roster for fun yesterday I actually came up with Farina as one of the bullpen possibilities. (Another off-the-radar guy that might be able to help in this capacity is Try Magnuson.)

Still, 5 innings of AA dominance as a 24yo doesn't compare with 43 innings of AA dominance as a 21yo.

Count Danny Farquhar (sp?) into that also, his era does suck this year but he has 2 funky different delivery styles and could be a good reliever in the majors.

Farquhar and his 6 BB/9 in AA is not something that would play well at higher levels.  I think he has potential sure; he's rarely given up hits.  But the fact that he barely gives up hits and has a high WHIP is just terrible.

Farina has excelled as a reliever and I was hoping he'd get a shot in Las Vegas by year end, although that looks unlikely now.  He's had an injury every year since we've drafted him from what I can recall, but he definitely would be a solid bullpen arm if he can stay healthy.  His stuff was always better regarded than both Rzep and Mills, who were drafted after him that year.

Relievers are a dime a dozen, if we can throw in one here and there to sweeten a deal to get a solid position player, you have to do it every time.

However, throwing in a guy in the Morrow deal like Chavez (who is having another great year) is what AA will have to avoid in the future.
