Fitness and Healhy Eating
« on: June 11, 2009, 10:32:35 AM »
I finished school in mid and decided to dedicate this summer to fitness.

I don't know if you guys ever heard of the Power 90 and Power 90x progams? I started at the end of May with the Power 90. At the time when I started I was around 195 pounds. I am 45 days into the 90 days program now and weight around 175 pounds. My diet has been stricktly Oatmeal, Combination of Fruits and Chicken Breasts/Turkey. I was also adding a few days of cycling or treadmill to the routine. Over the last few weeks though I been tiring out and took a few days off. So decided to cut out the cycling and the treadmill. I also want to improve my diet. Do any of you have any good recommendations for others grains/meats I can add to the mix? Also, are any of you doing the p90/p90x? or have completed the programs? Be great to hear other peoples experiences. For those of you unaware of what P90x is, it is a boot camp like workout routine. It goal is by the end of 90 days to completely transform your body. Here is an example of some of the results.

We started a natural detox monday and it's been pretty good...

A "green" drink in the morning as soon as you get up, get ready for the day and then a protien shake.  BBQ'd plain chicken pieces on a salad for lunch...then we've had chicken, salmon for dinners...lots of greens and fruits, no marg, no dairy, nothing processed, lots of organic stuff...did a bit of exercise this week, nothing too crazy...my wife weighed herself at lunch today(This was a program through her work) and she lost 5 pounds...we finish it tomorrow and then we'll stick with the healthy eating, but just not as restricted and up the light exercise...I'd like to lose a good 50-60 pounds at this point...

How much did the p90 program run you?  I currently go to the gym 5 days per week, but I am becoming extremely bored.

P90x is $129, but I know some pirates that sell it for free if you so desire.

Looking at around $70-$80 for Power 90 and over $100 for P90X. As the previous posted stated, it is available by other means.

Thanks for the tip.  I never thought of that.  Overlooked the fact it's just a bunch of dvd's .lol

Any tips for fast and healthy lunch options? I am always on the go and hardly have the time to make much. I already do alot of turkey meat wraps just looking for more alternatives. Thanks.

For fast and healthy lunches, I find preparing things the night before the easiest and healthiest.  Most "healthy" quick foods for lunch are loaded with sodium, which is bad for your heart and blood pressure.  Cooking up a bunch of chicken breasts, turkey or any type of lean meat and freezing it or refridgerating it is a good option.  Also, pot roasts for supper and having left overs the next day works too.

The wraps are good, and for a different type of feel you could just make sandwiches instead of wraps.  Oatmeal/ steel cut oats are another option for lunch, though some people don't like breakfast type foods for lunch.

If you like salads, try buying some of the pre-washed spinach or lettuces (Queen Vic or Dole etc.) in bags, then just add some blueberries , strawberries, carrots etc. with some dressing on the side.

Those would probably be the quickest.  You could always try some granola bars, or just granola, with some yougurt too as a snack/dessert.

Well balanced meals, moderation, and regular physical activity...that's all you need for everything to be A-okay.

Supplements

Do any of you guys use supplements and if so, which ones?

I use a Whey Protein Isolate
Mega Man MultiVitamin
Omega 3-6-9

I find the Whey and the Omega's work great, the Multis I am thinking of discontinuing.

I ate 2 oranges this week.  That's the extent of my healthy eating.  First fruit I've had in as long as I can remember!
