Cleveland Indians (9-16) Toronto Blue Jays (18-9)
Fausto Carmona
1-3 6.28ERA
.272AVG 1.64WHIP
Brian Tallet
1-1 6.45 ERA
.258AVG 1.52WHIP

The Toronto Blue Jays look to continue their winning ways in the 4th game of a abbreviated 5 game homestand.  Toronto took 2 of 3 in the Indians home opener winning 13-7, 5-4, and lost 8-4 in a game where David Purcey struck out 10 but walked 6 with 2 wild-pitches.  Brian Tallet is coming off a shaky start against the AL Central leading Kansas City Royals.

It's tough predicting wins.

I match up our starter vs. the opposing team and 4 out of 5 times we come out losers.

This one will be mighty, mighty tough.

I don't like predicting any baseball game. Even the best teams tend to lose to the worst teams 1/3 of the time...

I just hope for two things:
Tallet has a quality start, and Snider gets a hit.

I also wish they'd fix the roof and I'd go tonight or tomorrow afternoon.

Blasphemy, I know but I will be toggling between the Yankees/Sox and Jays game tonight.

From a strange feeling I have, I don't see them doing it today.

7-4 Jays. Tallet's gonna get up for this game against his former team I think.

Carmona is coming off his first decent start of the year (vs Boston), i think he might also have a good one against the Jays...that being said the Indians are a dead fastball hitting line up it seems and Tallet isn't a power guy.

2-4 Indians.

Please keep League out of this series for reasons mentioned above.

i mean, really...even with well-knowing this sports channel is an utter joke, this is beyond bullsh*t...

That does sound pathetic, i mean you're in Canada and the Jays are playing. Why show a yank match up?

On another subject i'm glad you started doing "that" thing again, awesome...keep up the good work kind sir.

I think RSN does this because they want you to purchase their Pacific/West/Ontario/East package. They know full-well that every region of Canada would prefer watching the Jays, but I think they pick on the West and East regions specifically because the Ontario and Pacific regions are more established for Jays viewership.

Your options are to move to BC, purchase the package, or hijack the network.

I think as long as you have the digital box you will get all the channels.  A worthwhile investment imo.

At the very least they should be showing you the Sox/Yanks instead of a matchup of two struggling teams.

Next they'll be showing you billiards.

This has to be the reason, nothing else even makes sense. Paying for the rights to show another stations broadcast surely costs a whole lot more than showing a game that they are producing anyways. I believe they have to pay the MLB for the rights, AND the other station for the feed. Showing the Jays would cost essentially nothing. I'm fairly certain Canada is all one region to the MLB and therefore Sportsnet has the rights for all the games they show right across the country. Otherwise, the games would be blacked out in the areas that they didn't have the proper rights. I could be wrong, but it sure seems like a cash grab to me.

I'm actually really disappointed to hear that.  There are two scenarios where I can almost understand the different game:

1 - Yankees/Red Sox games simply because you probably have just as many "fans" of those teams around the country as you do Jays fans.  The simple byproduct of name association + winning (or at least the perception of winning).

2 - A West coast team like the Mariners who are so close to BC that you can understand there being a "local" attraction.

But playing a game between Tampa and Baltimore...that is just strange.  It's obviously for the reason that Lime put out there, but really disappointing.  It would be interesting to see what the ratings numbers are out West for Jays games compared to something like this.

Actually, this might actually have something to do with the rights to broadcast games...it was part of the reason that RSN stopped airing Raptors games, because of the obligation to show a certain amount of NBA content.  TSN could cheat with the TSN2 channel, but RSN didn't want to air the number of basketball games they were required to get 20 or so Toronto games.  I wonder if there is a similar rule from MLB?

Another thing I just thought of is Sportsnet's license with the CRTC. Under it, they have to show a certain amount of "regional" programming that is different across the 4 regions. I'm not sure if this would even qualify though, there is really no way they can justify TB/Baltimore as having any kind of regional interest to those customers....

This link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_blackout_policy) doesn't say much but it shows the regions as the MLB sees it... Jays have all of Canada, but have to share various provinces with some American teams.

edit: Since I'm extremely bored at work (my job consists of sitting at a computer and waiting for people to come and ask for help. I've have 2 people in the past 2.5 hours), I looked on CRTCs website to see what I could find. Its seems they must show at least 33% unique content on each of the 4 stations. The more concerning news that I found, however, is that Rogers has received a licence for a station called "Baseball TV" which can show up to 10% live games (which is about a game per day by my math. Or if it is 10% annually, probably 2 during baseball season and none during the winter). This would be good news, except I have a feeling it'll end up costing $5 a month or something stupid, and they'll start putting Jays games on it, just like Leafs TV does, to make you subscribe.

I'm not affected, but I think someone should start a petition or something.
