Go After Rasmus?
« on: September 05, 2010, 04:39:37 PM »
Quarrels between Rasmus and La Russa has prompted the outfielder to request a trade. This might open the window on acquiring a player that otherwise might have been untouchable. I'd like to see the Jays in hot pursuit since OF is somewhat of a weakness with only Wells and Snider as everyday-calibre players going forward (if Bautista moves to 3B). Plus, a talented, toolsy (though definitely not unpolished) player like Rasmus fits perfectly into Anthopoulos' modus operandi.

With starting pitching looking like a surplus I wouldn't mind sending Drabek the other way if need be.

Did anyone hear what Wilner was saying about this today?  I wasn't paying attention until the last second, then he changed topics.

I really think the Cardinals will rid themselves of LaRussa before they do Rasmus.  If they feel they have to keep Tony so they can pay Pujlos 30 million a year until the end of time then sure go for Rasmus.

Marcum + prospects?   Something like that might work but given the way AA has been going I can't see him doing this.  Rasmus will be too expensive by the time he plans on contending.  It seems like he is looking 3,4,5 years into the future and not 1 or 2 more years down the road.

Yeah i'd go for him alright he's very much a "toolsy" player and seems unwated in St Louis now, even Pujoys decided publically to have a go at him.

I Wouldn't give up Drabek for him though as pitchers are more valuable then a toolsy outfielder and also Drabek/Stewart are the only two young pitchers in the minors right now remotely ready for a call up. However I would be open to trading JPA for him though and Marcum

Rasmus certainly does seem like a guy who is due to breakout over a full season.  But like corpusse said more likely Larussa is gone before Rasmus. I know that ESPN Baseball Today speculated that if the Cards finish a ways out in second that this could be it for Larussa.

I don't know that the Cards would be looking for starting pitching, they've got a pretty good rotation.  Middle Infield seems to be much bigger problem for them.

How 'bout:

Toronto gets Colby Rasmus
Baltimore gets Shaun Marcum
St. Louis gets Yunel Escobar and Brian Roberts

I'm not sure the Cards could take on Roberts' salary though...

Supposedly Pujols doesn't want anyone in St. Louis who doesn't want to be there and wants him gone.

How much value does Aaron Hill have at this point?

Not enough to be considered part of any major trade imo.
